QPR v Chelsea player ratings

There were missed chances, a couple of impressive debuts and some controversial moments in an eventful but goalless draw at Loftus Road. Here’s how we rated the players in Saturday’s west London derby between QPR and Chelsea.

QPR

Julio Cesar: 7
Did well only four minutes into his debut to deny Eden Hazard, who should have scored, and produced a couple of theatrical saves in the second half. A decent start for the Brazilian.

Jose Bosingwa: 7
A good performance against his former club, especially given that he was switched to left-back after a first-half injury to Fabio. Got forward well, used the ball sensibly and was defensively solid.

Anton Ferdinand: 8
Rose above the furore surrounding him and John Terry, producing one of his best performances for QPR. Was strong in the air and his decision-making in dealing with Hazard, who drifted into various positions, was excellent.

Ryan Nelsen: 7
Again showed why Mark Hughes signed him. Solid and assured alongside Ferdinand, although he was fortunate not to concede a penalty when wrestling Terry to the ground.

Fabio: 6
Limped off in the first half after picking up a hamstring injury.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: 6
Offered little going forward. He did offer reliable defensive cover but almost ruined his good work when he brought down Hazard in the area and should have had a penalty awarded against him.

Alejandro Faurlin: 8
Superb performance from the midfielder, made all the more remarkable by the fact he only recently returned from a long-term knee injury. Showed much greater awareness without the ball than he has in the past and, as always, was effective with the ball.

Esteban Granero: 7
Classy player who did well alongside Faurlin, although they were helped by Chelsea opting for a flat four across the midfield rather than outnumbering the Rangers duo. Granero is dangerous from set-pieces, reads the game well and has settled in quickly.

Ji-sung Park: 7
Worked hard and had some bright moments but is yet to fire on all cylinders for Rangers.

Bobby Zamora: 7
Has made a good start to the season. Most comfortable with his back to goal – including when he’s got his front to goal with only the keeper to beat.

Andrew Johnson: 6
Looked lively before being injured.

Nedum Onuoha: 5
Gave the ball away a number of times after replacing Fabio. Looks so much better in the centre of defence than at full-back.

Jamie Mackie: 7
Worked hard as ever and bothered Chelsea both through the middle after replacing Johnson and when moved out wide following the introduction of Djibril Cisse.

Djibril Cisse: 7
Did very well after coming on as a substitute. Gave Chelsea problems – and Rangers new impetus at an important stage of the game.

Chelsea

Petr Cech: 7
Looked solid and produced an important first-half save to deny Bobby Zamora.

Branislav Ivanovic: 7
Competent defensively and got forward well, especially in the first half.

David Luiz: 7
Might have struggled in a game like this in the past but these days is well versed in the Premier League and did well despite being put under plenty of pressure by Rangers.

John Terry: 7
Like Ferdinand, once the action began he was flawless at the back. Picked up an injury late on though and will be a big loss if he is ruled out of the Champions League game against Juventus.

Ashley Cole: 7
Not as dangerous going forward as he can be but played his part in a good defensive performance by his team.

Ramires: 7
Typically tireless on the right and almost created an early goal for Hazard after storming down the flank and delivering a low cross.

John Obi Mikel: 6
His mistake in the second half almost gifted a goal to Zamora. Needed to do more against a Rangers midfield pairing that had the upper hand for much of the game.

Frank Lampard: 6
Also failed to stamp his authority in midfield. Not his day.

Ryan Bertrand: 7
Quietly did his job in a match Chelsea needed to be solid in. Offers good cover for Cole and won several important challenges.

Eden Hazard: 6
Should have scored early on and in the final few minutes, when he blazed over from 10 yards out. Was generally quiet compared to his previous outings for Chelsea.

Fernando Torres: 6
Unhappy at being substituted on a frustrating afternoon for the Spaniard. After a blistering start to the season has looked below par in his last couple of matches and could do with a goal to get things going again.

Victor Moses: 7
Impressive after coming for his debut. Caused Bosingwa some problems and set up Hazard for a glorious late chance to win the game.
