QPR v Charlton player ratings
QPR made it back-to-back London derby wins by beating Charlton at Loftus Road. Here’s how we rated the Rangers players in their 2-1 victory.
Alex Smithies: 7
Rarely troubled and could do nothing about Charlton’s goal, but when fully called upon, Smithies answered – particularly with a stunning one-on-one save from Igor Vetokele late in the game.
James Perch: 6
A steady game on his return to right-back, but injury curtailed his afternoon early in the second half.
Nedum Onuoha: 6
Reunited with Grant Hall in the centre in the first half, where he performed admirably. But moved to right-back in second half when Perch was forced off. The captain’s struggles at full-back were again exposed against Ademola Lookman, but he got forward well.
Grant Hall: 6
Given an easy ride in the first half, but as Charlton pressed in the second, Hall found the going a lot tougher.
Jack Robinson: 6
Put in an encouraging performance on his debut. Unsurprisingly struggled against the pace and skill of Callum Harriott at times – mostly in the final third of the game, at a time his manager says he was playing with cramp. But he was physically strong and used the ball well.
Karl Henry: 7
Worked hard, battled and broke up play. A few misplaced passes aside, this was a good performance from Henry.
Massimo Luongo: 7
Kept the ball ticking over for the R’s and found plenty of space around the park. The Australian is starting to cement his spot in the starting 11.
Matty Phillips: 6
Scored a fortuitous goal when his cross evaded everyone, including Nick Pope in the Charlton goal, and nestled into the net. Other than that, Phillips showed flashes of pace and skill, but failed to deliver telling contributions and frustrated the home crowd with misplaced crosses and a lethargic display.
Junior Hoilett: 7
Showed the more physical side to his game in another lively performance.
Tjaronn Chery: 7
Continued his fine form and only a stunning save from Pope stopped Chery from scoring his 11th of the season.
Sebastian Polter: 6
A tough afternoon for the German, who was unable to trouble the visitors’ centre-back pairing.
Cole Kpekawa: 6
Brought on early in the second half to replace the injured Perch, Kpekawa slotted into the centre of defence alongside Hall. He survived a tricky half an hour as Charlton pressed.
Ben Gladwin: 6
Sent an effort wide in a lively cameo.
Nasser El Khayati: 7
Clinched all three points with a stunning curler – his first goal for the club – in injury time, prompting co-chairman Tony Fernandes to immediately suggest on Twitter that QPR might have found their new Adel Taarabt.
