QPR v Bournemouth player ratings

QPR moved up to second in the Championship, level on points with leaders Leicester, with a resounding win over Bournemouth at Loftus Road. Here’s how we rated the players in their 3-0 victory.

Rob Green: 7
A momentary fumble of a header back from Benoit Assou-Ekotto was the keeper’s only blip. He commanded his area well and made the routine saves he needed to.

Danny Simpson: 7
Had a good game at right-back. Solid defensively and eager to get forward. Delivered a good cross in the build-up to the important second goal.

Richard Dunne: 6
Given the odd problem by Bournemouth’s movement up front during a decent second-half spell for the visitors. But he was otherwise comfortable and could be depended upon to put a foot in when needed.

Clint Hill: 7
Came into his own during the Cherries’ brief periods of pressure. Firm in the tackle and strong in the air.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto: 7
Completely untroubled defensively so took advantage by getting forward to good effect.

Gary O'Neil of QPR
O’Neil worked hard on the right.

Gary O’Neil: 7
Did a solid job playing from the right. Came inside when needed to help Rangers control the midfield and offered good cover for Simpson too.

Joey Barton: 7
Easily able or coast through the game, using the ball sensibly and closing down well necessary,

Tom Carroll: 7
Back in action after a nasty ankle injury. Sloppy and too hurried with his passing sometimes, which is down to inexperience. Showed his ability in the perfect kind of game for him. Harry Redknapp may well opt to restore an extra man in midfield alongside Carroll against stronger opposition though.

Junior Hoilett: 7
Ran hot and cold, but scored an important goal and offered a threat down the left-hand side.

Andy Johnson: 7
Used his experienced well, although he was helped by some dire defending – not least when setting up Charlie Austin’s opener. His movement and positioning caused Bournemouth major problems throughout.

Charlie Austin: 8
Took his goal very well and was denied the chance to score again by a clear handball as he was about to go through. Much more comfortable in a less intricate 4-4-2, which plays to his strengths.

Jermaine Jenas: 6
Neat and tidy after being brought on.

Matt Phillips: 7
Scored a fine goal, cleverly beating his man and then finishing emphatically. Rangers will hope it’s a sign of things to come from the winger, who has bags of ability.

Bournemouth
A decent side, but one simply not cut out for playing QPR away. They were the perfect opponents for Rangers, allowing them time and space and defending abysmally at times. Having been reluctant to open up into a 4-4-2 this season, Redknapp chose to do so against his former club – and with good reason.
