First-half goals from Tjaronn Chery and Junior Hoilett gave QPR victory over Birmingham. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-0 win at Loftus Road.
Alex Smithies: 7
A few moments of uncertainty aside, Smithies was rarely troubled. An excellent save from a David Cotterill free-kick was the only real save he needed to make and he was generally solid.
Nedum Onuoha: 7
The R’s captain is not known for his sparkling footwork, but an exquisite nutmeg in the first half was just one of many fine touches in this display. He got forward to support the attack and did well defensively.
Gabrielle Angella: 7
Carried on the good work from his display at Sheffield Wednesday with another very decent performance. The centre-back didn’t give an inch to Birmingham forward Clayton Donaldson and nearly scored with a second-half header.
Grant Hall: 7
Rarely troubled at the back. His distribution was excellent.
James Perch: 7
Much better from Perch. He provided good attacking support and created the first goal after robbing Ryan Shotton of the ball on the left and setting up Tjaronn Chery.
Karl Henry: 7
A solid performance from Henry, who screened the defence well. He also blocked a goal-bound shot in the second half.
Massimo Luongo: 7
Another accomplished performance from the midfielder, who battled and scrapped while still showing his impressive technical ability.
Matty Phillips: 7
Lively and assertive, Phillips was a nuisance to the Birmingham backline for much of the afternoon.
Junior Hoilett: 8
A fine display capped with a goal from the penalty spot. He was lively from the start.
Tjaronn Chery: 8
A superb performance from the recalled Dutchman, who scored the opening goal with a tidy finish after twisting and turning in the box. Chery glided across the pitch at will, showing off his array of skills and tricks.
Sebastian Polter: 7
Struggled in the early exchanges, but improved vastly as Rangers took control of the game. Battled hard up front and won the penalty.
