Charlie Austin’s second-half goals secured another win for QPR, whose eighth consecutive clean sheet set a new club record. Here’s how we rated the players in their 2-0 victory against Barnsley.
Rob Green: 6
Made Rangers history with yet another shut-out. Was barely troubled, but organised his back four well enough and tipped over a rare effort on his goal.
Danny Simpson: 7
Another busy performance on the right-hand side. Solid defensively and always willing to get forward.
Richard Dunne: 7
Impressive again and was unlucky not to score with a first-half header which was cleared off the line. Rangers are still yet to concede a goal with him in the team.
Clint Hill: 6
Didn’t exactly have his hands full but did his job calmly and effectively.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto: 7
Untroubled defensively so was able to get forward almost at will. Did exactly that and nearly created a goal in the first half.
Gary O’Neil: 6
Drifted out of the game at times but got through his fair share of work on the right and caused Barnsley the odd problem when he drifted inside.
Joey Barton: 7
Helped to drive Rangers on when they were looking for the all-important opening goal and took control of the midfield once they were in front. Another good display.
Tom Carroll: 7
Talented player who is still learning and has problems in some types of Championship matches, but not one-sided ones like this when Rangers are dominant and he has ample time on the ball.
Alejandro Faurlin: 7
Another player who has benefited from Rangers having an additional central midfielder and the team being dominant in back-to-back home matches. Against a side with men behind the ball and no real ambition to break in behind Faurlin, he can comfortably do what he wants. Needed the last couple of matches to rebuild his confidence.
Niko Kranjcar: 5
Surprisingly disappointing after such fine home debut against Middlesbrough. Adrenaline possibly got him through that match as in this one he was off the pace and looked more like a man still short of full fitness.
Charlie Austin: 8
Given a whopping pay rise and a big move to London, and with things not going too well for him to begin with, there are plenty QPR players in his position in recent years who would have quickly lost their edge. But he didn’t and Austin deserves the purple patch he’s now enjoying. Was persistent when things didn’t go his way and looks full of confidence now they are. Two more goals took his tally to five in five matches.
Junior Hoilett: 7
Made a real impact after coming on, creating the opening goal for Austin and giving Rangers some much-needed pace and directness on the flank.
