Punters are backing Chelsea, not City, to topple United next season

We at BetVictor have pushed Manchester United out to 13/8 from 6/4 for the 2013/14 Premier League title following the announcement that Sir Alex Ferguson is to retire at the end of the season.

And punters have latched onto Chelsea (7/2 from 4s) rather than Manchester City (2/1) in the wake of Fergie’s decision to stand down.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is 1/8 to take over at the Bridge and Everton’s Marouane Fellaini is 1/3 to be a Chelsea player by 1 September.

Wayne Rooney is 3/1 to end up at Chelsea, having been well backed on Thursday morning, although we think it more likely he will go to Bayern Munich (6/4) or Paris St Germain (2/1) rather than west London.

Note this market does not have a timescale. Rooney is 11/10 to still be a United player on 1 September and 4/6 not to be. I would be staggered if he were still at Old Trafford after the August transfer window.

Chelsea visit Villa Park on Saturday and are 1/14 to finish in the top four (Arsenal 1/4 and Spurs 2s) and 1/4 to end the campaign as top London club.

They have not yet confirmed their top-four finish but are 20/23 to go into Wednesday’s Europa League Final with a Champions League spot confirmed.

Villa have been in very good form of late and are out to 50/1 to be relegated and 10/3 for another three points, with the draw 11/4.

Chelsea are 5/4 to beat Benfica in 90 minutes in Amsterdam with the draw 12/5 and the Eagles of Lisbon 11/5.

It should be a cracking game, with Chelsea 4/6 to lift the trophy and Benfica 11/10.
