Porto v Chelsea player ratings

Chelsea’s woes continued with a Champions League defeat against boss Jose Mourinho’s former club. Here’s how we rated the Blues players against Porto.

Asmir Begovic: 8
Had an excellent game and was unlucky when Andre Andre pounced on the loose ball to score after the Chelsea keeper had made a fine save.

Branislav Ivanovic: 5
Oh dear. Ivanovic’s dismal form continued with another poor display. He was beaten in the build up to the opening goal and was unconvincing throughout.

Kurt Zouma: 5
Slow to spot danger on a number of occasions and was careless at times too. Not one of his better performances.

Gary Cahill: 5
Another Chelsea defender who struggled. Vincent Aboubakar got the better of him.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6
Not for the first time recently, Azpilicueta was Chelsea’s best defender. He was given plenty of problems but stuck to his task and did reasonably well.

John Mikel Obi: 5
Brought in to quell Porto’s dynamic midfield and was simply unable to do so.

Cesc Fabregas: 5
The Spaniard continues to struggle to recapture his form of last season. He was overrun as Porto played through Chelsea with alarming ease at times.

Pedro: 7
Had a decent chance to score in the first half and although he drifted in and out of the game before eventually being substituted, he was positive and got into some excellent positions.

Ramires: 5
Was unable to assert himself in an attacking sense and didn’t offer much defensive protection either.

Willian: 7
Scored with a stunning free-kick and was typically lively.

Diego Costa: 8
Superb from Costa, who was an absolute menace to the Porto defence with his movement, hold-up play and typically robust approach. He was unlucky not to score, especially when his fine strike hit the woodwork.

Eden Hazard: 7
Left out of the starting line-up, Hazard made an impact after coming on, firing into the side netting and generally worrying Porto with his skill and movement.

Nemanja Matic: 6
Also omitted from the starting line-up, the out-of-form Matic again didn’t look convincing when introduced in the second half. Seems short of confidence at the moment.

Kenedy: 6
Posed a threat when he came on, but he missed a late chance.
