News in brief: Bees sell 2,000 tickets for QPR clash, Ferdinand’s Southall return

Les Ferdinand
QPR’s director of football is expected to be among those marking Southall FC’s run to the 1986 FA Vase final at a reunion evening in May. A 19-year-old Ferdinand played up front in the 3-0 defeat to Halesowen at Wembley and he is likely to join John Powell, Rob Holland, Steve Cordery, Colin Dennison, John Exer, Stewart Baldwin and others at Northwood FC’s clubhouse on 6 May. QPR v Brentford
The Bees have sold close to 2,000 tickets for the derby at Loftus Road on 12 March.

Chelsea
The Blues Under-21s’ tie against PSV Eindhoven in the semi-final of the Premier League International Cup will take place on Thursday 3 March. It will be held at Aldershot Town, with a 7.05pm kick-off, and entry is free.

QPR
Rangers Under-21s’ league fixture with Watford next Tuesday (23 February) has been postponed.

Eoin Morgan
The Middlesex batsman led England to a 44-run win over South Africa A in a T20 match in Paarl. Morgan smashed 42 off just 13 balls, including five sixes, while Nottinghamshire’s Hillingdon-born Alex Hales top scored with 78 as England made 202-6 in their 20 overs. They then restricted South Africa A to 158-8.

Dawid Malan
Morgan’s county team-mate was part of the Peshawar Zalmi team that beat Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. Malan made only eight but Peshawar still reached the target of 153 set for them by Karachi.

Middlesex CCC
Details of the club’s pre-season tour to South Africa have been announced. They will play a T20 match against Western Province on 9 March, a 50-over game against Newlands on 10 March and a two-day match against Stellenbosch on 15 and 16 March.

Hayes & Yeading United
The club’s National League South match away to Havant & Waterlooville, originally scheduled for Easter Saturday, has been brought forward to Good Friday (25 March). Because Portsmouth are at home that afternoon, the game will kick off at 7.45pm.

Wealdstone

Jordanne Whiley and Andy Lapthorne
The West London wheelchair tennis stars both won their opening matches at the Bolton Indoor Tournament 6-0 6-0 on Wednesday. Ickenham-based Whiley, the defending champion in the women’s singles, beat fellow Brit Val Fisher while Lapthorne, from Eastcote, whitewashed Israel’s Haim Lev in the quad singles.
