Manchester United boss wants to sign Ashley Cole – report

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign Ashley Cole on a Bosman free transfer at the end of the season, the Daily Mail say.

There has been speculation about Cole’s future as he is in the final year of his contract at Chelsea and has yet to agree a new deal.

Cole’s contract ends next year.

It is claimed Ferguson is shocked that Cole has been allowed to run down his contract and is in the market for a left-back as apparent doubts persist over the future of Patrice Evra.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has previously stated that he is confident Cole will sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph suggest Chelsea are ‘on high alert’ because former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola is keen to manage in the Premier League, with London his preferred destination.

It is claimed the 41-year-old, who has been consistently linked with the Blues manager’s job, is also being eyed by both Manchester clubs.
