Man Utd v QPR player ratings

With new manager Harry Redknapp watching from the stands, QPR produced an improved display against Manchester United and took the lead before going down 3-1. Here’s how we rated Rangers’ players in their defeat at Old Trafford.

Julio Cesar: 6
Left exposed for United’s goals, but needed to be more assertive at set-pieces. Produced two decent saves in the first half.

Kieron Dyer: 7
A massive improvement on Jose Bosingwa. Was excellent for an hour before tiring.

Ryan Nelsen: 7
Another who tired in the latter stages but deserves credit for his performance.

Clint Hill: 7
Fine display after being restored to the side and was unlucky not to score in the second half.

Armand Traore: 7
Did well before once again going off because of an injury concern. Rangers then missed him.

Shaun Derry: 7
Another of the old guard Mark Hughes had decided to look to before the Welshman’s sacking on the eve of the game. Solid and produced a great last-ditch challenge in the first half to deny Paul Scholes.

Stephane Mbia: 7
Sloppy at times but overall played very well. Mobile and strong. Ought to have got tighter to Javier Hernandez for United’s third goal though.

Alejandro Faurlin: 7
Can be vulnerable when opponents look to attack space in behind him, but looked comfortable in a deeper role where his willingness to tackle and ability to pick a pass was evident.

Adel Taarabt: 6
His trickery worried United at times in the first half but he became less influential in the second.

Jamie Mackie: 8
On hand to score the opener and was a constant annoyance to the United defence whether with the ball at his feet or when chasing lost causes. Will no doubt have impressed Redknapp.

Djibril Cisse: 6
Livelier than in recent games but still lacks the sparkle of last season.

Anton Ferdinand: 5
Looked uncomfortable after replacing Traore as Rangers lost the initiative in an eight-minute spell.
