Man Utd v Fulham player ratings

Fulham never threatened an FA Cup upset at Old Trafford, where Manchester United controlled the game from start to finish. Here’s how we rated the players in their 4-1 defeat.

Mark Schwarzer: 6
Woefully exposed by his defence. Produced a good first-half save to deny Wayne Rooney.

Sascha Riether: 6
Had a tough time on the flank but at least looked to get forward and had one of Fulham’s few attempts on goal when he sent an effort wide.

Brede Hangeland: 5
Given a torrid time by Rooney, who beat Hangeland with ease for his goal. Never looked comfortable against United’s quick and skilful forward line.

Aaron Hughes: 5
His goal aside, Hughes had an awful game. He was run ragged by United and conceded an early penalty.

John Arne Riise: 5
Had his work cut out trying to stop Nani, who caused him major problems.

Damien Duff: 6
Lucky not to have a penalty awarded against him after a handball, but overall he wasn’t too bad before being replaced in the second half. Used the ball well and looked to attack United whenever possible.

Chris Baird: 5
Had the job of protecting the back four and had no success in the role whatsoever. It was knife-through-butter stuff before he was replaced at half-time.

Steve Sidwell: 6
Effective at times with his passing and closing down, especially in the first half, but simply had too much to do as Fulham were overrun in midfield.

Alexander Kacaniklic: 5
Didn’t get into the game at all.

Bryan Ruiz: 5
For all their attacking prowess, United also worked hard to shut off the threat of Ruiz, who struggled to make an impact and was sloppy with the ball at times.

Dimitar Berbatov: 6
Neat and tidy but was unable to do any damage as his former team dominated.

Giorgos Karagounis: 6
Was more influential than Baird after coming on for him at the break. Kept the ball well and served up a good delivery for Hughes’ goal.

Ashkan Dejagah: 5
Came on for Ruiz and had no more joy than the Costa Rican.

Hugo Rodallega: 6
His pace might have been an asset had Fulham still been in the game when he came off the bench. Unfortunately, they weren’t.
