Leeds v Chelsea player ratings
Chelsea eased into the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup with a 5-1 thrashing of Leeds. Here’s how we rated the players in their victory at Elland Road.
Petr Cech: 6
Had little to do. Distribution was excellent. Under pressure from a couple of set-pieces and not totally convincing, but kept the ball out.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 6
Quiet but steady. Not afraid of the physical battle and provided good support in attack.
David Luiz: 8
Will be harshly criticised for giving the ball away for Leeds’ opener, but was 80 yards from goal at the time. On occasions is immense. Oozes quality and set up numerous attacks. Controversial rating maybe but is an easy target for criticism because of his desire to play. Still a class act.
Branislav Ivanovic: 6
Shaky early on and was helped out by Luiz on a couple of occasions. But settled and scored with a fine header.
Ryan Bertrand: 7
More impressive than on previous occasions this season. Looked comfortable. Good positional sense and defensively sound.
Frank Lampard: 8
Knowhow and experience crucial in a more defensive role. Responsible, controlled and disciplined. Bossed the midfield after the interval. Would be criminal if he is not given a new contract.
Oscar: 7
Tenacious and bright. Gave the ball away cheaply on occasions but his obvious class always shone through and once again he showed he is not afraid of a physical challenge
Juan Mata: 8
Scored a vital goal at the perfect time that took the wind out of Leeds. Majestic at times. Took his goal brilliantly and always a pleasure to watch.
Marko Marin: 5
Lively considering it was his first Blues start. Looked tidy and busy but clearly not match fit and couldn’t influence the game.
Victor Moses: 7
Dangerous throughout and scored a sensational goal. Growing in confidence with each game he starts.
Fernando Torres: 5
Did virtually nothing right until his simple late goal wrapped up victory. Too sloppy in possession.
Eden Hazard: 8
Unstoppable in his half-hour. A tiring Leeds couldn’t cope with his direct running and pace. Took his goal superbly and some trademark unselfish work teed up Torres for the fifth.
Ashley Cole: 6
Efficient and effortless after replacing Bertrand.
