Villa boss Sherwood hopeful of Austin deal, report claims
A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving QPR…
Speculation continues over the future of Charlie Austin, with Aston Villa now tipped to launch a bid to sign the QPR striker.
Villa boss Tim Sherwood, who worked with QPR director of football Les Ferdinand when they were at Tottenham, has so far shown no interest in Austin.
But the Sunday Mirror claim Villa will look to sign him after selling Christian Benteke to Liverpool and that Sherwood is believed to be hopeful of using his friendship with Ferdinand to thrash out a £15m deal.
It is also claimed that Newcastle, who have not made an approach despite numerous reports suggesting they have done so, have seen their supposed move for Austin stall and that Crystal Palace are keen too.
The Daily Star Sunday say West Ham – one of the clubs that have long been linked with Austin – have ‘joined the race’ to sign him following news that they will be without the injured Andy Carroll at the start of the season.
The Star also say Austin is wanted by Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, who managed him at Burnley and recently dismissed reports he was looking to sign the 25-year-old.
