Funding boost ‘to create sporting legacy for Hounslow’

CB Hounslow United Football Club has secured backing from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund to create a new community sports facility near Hounslow Heath.

The club will receive £50,000 of National Lottery funding to redevelop old sports pitches on Green Lane.

As well as five football pitches and a clubhouse, the project will include running, cycling and archery groups – making it a leading community sports club intended for all ages and abilities.

There will be lessons for any skill range available in all of these sports but it’s advised that you come with some knowledge on the rules and practices of the sport. For example, if you want to give archery a go then look on campingfunzone.com for some tips from experienced archers.

The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £135m Places People Play legacy programme, which is being delivered by Sport England, working in partnership with the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association.

It is also backed by The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

“We are delighted to have secured this investment towards the redevelopment of sports facilities necessary to provide the community with a first-class sports club,” said CB Hounslow United chairman Frank James.

“It is a cornerstone of our club development plan to have an outstanding club as part of the 2012 Olympics’ legacy.”

Middlesex FA county development manager Stuart Allen added: “We are delighted that CB Hounslow United have secured this funding, which will help to provide much-needed community sporting facilities in Hounslow.

“We look forward to working with the club to secure further funding and bring the project to fruition.”

And LOCOG chair Lord Coe said: “This is a fantastic funding project that will deliver a real legacy from the London 2012 Games.

“It will provide a whole range of sporting opportunities for young people through improved facilities and will I hope inspire them to take up sport.”

CB Hounslow United is one of hundreds of projects across England benefiting from Lottery investment.

Sport England have also launched a further £10m funding round to help local community sports groups upgrade their facilities. Bids will be accepted from 23 July. For more information click here.

“This National Lottery investment will create a lasting sporting legacy for Hounslow,” said Sport England chair Richard Lewis.

“For hundreds of clubs and tens of thousands of people, 2012 will be the year their local sports facilities got better.”
