Fulham v Saints player ratings
It’s not looking good for Fulham, who must hope their deadline-day signings can pull them away from the foot of the table. Here’s how we rated the players in the 3-0 defeat against Southampton which left the Whites bottom of the pile.
Maarten Stekelenburg: 6
Made some good saves in the first half and there was not much he could have done about all three goals, all of which were excellently taken.
Sascha Riether: 5
Riether was very disappointing by his usual standards. He was no match for any Southampton player that attacked on the left and was often caught out of position entirely.
Brede Hangeland: 5
Hangeland also had a poor game. There was clear confusion between him and Dan Burn as to who should pick up Jay Rodriguez and Ricky Lambert and he allowed Rodriguez a clear route to goal for Southampton’s third.
Dan Burn: 5
Along with Hangeland, Burn struggled to cope with Southampton’s forwards.
Kieran Richardson: 5
Also struggled with the Saints attackers and he was easily beaten by Nathaniel Clyne when the right-back set up Lambert for the second.
Steve Sidwell: 6
Sidwell’s passing was mostly wayward and he could not contain the likes of Adam Lallana and Morgan Scheinderlin in midfield.
William Kvist: 6
Looked to be having a decent debut after joining from Stuttgart but the pace and velocity of the game became too much for him in the second half.
Scott Parker: 7
Parker always gives his all and this game was no different, but he was unable to break up play in midfield as much as he often does.
Lewis Holtby: 7
Tottenham’s loss is Fulham’s gain. Holtby showed glimpses of the excellent player he can be with some great passing on his debut.
Darren Bent: 4
Was virtually non-existent apart from two chances he failed to put away in the first half. Artur Boruc saved both chances well but you would usually bank on Bent to score in those positions.
Damien Duff: 5
Duff was once again ineffectual and it is difficult to see how he can retain his place after a string of poor games.
Clint Dempsey: 5
Unable to make an impact and watched two of the three goals go in, whilst struggling to get on the ball.
Pajtim Kasami: 6
Kasami was more energetic than Dempsey when he came on but was also unable to swing the momentum in Fulham’s favour.
