Fulham and Brentford drew 2-2 in an end-to-end west London derby. Here’s how we rated both teams at Craven Cottage.
Fulham
Andy Lonergan: 8
Returned to the side for the first time in six weeks and did not look rusty. Beaten by the Alan Judge penalty and not helped by his defence for the second Bees goal, but did make several fine stops in the second half, the best from Lasse Vibe.
Ashley Richards: 6
Another returning from injury but, unlike Lonergan, his lack of game time was evident in the slightly rash diving challenge that resulted in the penalty. Decision looked harsh though as he seemed to get a touch on the ball.
Richard Stearman: 7
Booked early in the second half after a coming together with Jack O’Connell at a corner. Strong defensively, but his most eye-catching moment was a lung-busting run deep into the Brentford half – sadly it proved fruitless and left him struggling to get back.
Tim Ream: 6
Looked uncomfortable at times and was lucky to get away with a loose pass in the first half, which led to a Vibe shot saved by keeper Lonergan.
Luke Garbutt: 8
Has been frustrated at his lack of first-team football but took full advantage of James Husband’s absence to put in fine display at left-back. His passing was tidy and he closed off Brentford’s right-hand side.
Ryan Fredericks: 7
Worked hard supporting Richards as Brentford tried to overload down the left – one flying block to deny Jake Bidwell was particularl impressive – but made little impact going forward. Booked in the first half and replaced by Alex Kacaniklic on 79 minutes.
Jamie O’Hara: 7
Not a perfect display by any means, but while his passing was occasionally off, he also started the move that led to Fulham’s second goal and put in some dangerous crosses when he drifted wide.
Scott Parker: 6
Now 35, the former England midfielder struggles to impose himself on games these days and this was another quiet one as he battles back to match fitness. His communication and organisation was superb though, before making way for Cauley Woodrow as Fulham went for a more attacking outlook in the last 10 minutes.
Tom Cairney: 6
Less effective shunted out wide on the left and couldn’t escape the clutches of the excellent Nico Yennaris. Replaced by Matt Smith late on.
Moussa Dembele: 8
Occasionally quiet but then had moments where he burst into life, most notably with a superbly taken goal as he eased away from James Tarkowski. The finish alone sums up why he has drawn admiring glances from the Premier League. Had a couple of late efforts blocked.
Ross McCormack: 8
Involved in both of the goals, as his cross was turned into his own net by Tarkowski for the first before he laid the ball into Dembele for the second. Had a couple of efforts himself and while his overall contribution was sporadic, he looked dangerous when involved.
Brentford
David Button: 7
Unlucky with Tarkowski’s own goal, having appeared to have the cross covered, and was exposed for Fulham’s second. His handling was good and he saved a McCormack free-kick late in the game.
Nico Yennaris: 8
Rapidly maturing into a Championship-standard right-back and put in another composed performance, as he was quick to block and tackle and also supported the attack at times.
James Tarkowski: 6
Didn’t need to try and head away McCormack’s cross, which he put into his own net, though how much of that was down to a lack of communication from Button is unclear. Also lost Dembele for Fulham’s second but redeemed himself by setting up the equaliser scored by his centre-back partner.
Jack O’Connell: 7
The equaliser capped a solid performance from O’Connell, against the mobile front two of McCormack and Dembele. Booked for the corner shenanigans with Stearman.
Jake Bidwell: 9
An excellent, whole-hearted display from the Bees skipper. From his charging run ended abruptly – through foul means or fair – by Richards for the penalty, to the determined blocks late in the game to deny Dembele, and his constant presence down the left at both ends. Desperate for a goal and his eyes lit up when a ball rolled across the box to him but Fredericks slid in to block.
Konstantin Kerschbaumer: 7
Had a very tidy first half and began the second half brightly, getting a shot away in the opening seconds, but faded and was substituted midway through by John Swift.
Toumani Diagouraga: 6
Not as influential as he usually is but still put in some good passes and broke up Fulham’s midfield rhythm.
Ryan Woods: 6
Drifted in and out of the game, looking most dangerous when Brentford had just won possession and Fulham were backpedalling. Had one shot saved when well placed.
Sergi Canos: 6
Some good link-up play and dropped in to a midfield five when Fulham had the ball in their own half, but for all his hard work he struggled to make a real impact and was replaced by Jota on 66 minutes.
Alan Judge: 8
Involved throughout, as always, scoring the penalty and playing some immaculately weighted passes – remarkable given the strength of the wind at times.
Lasse Vibe: 7
Brought the midfielders into play, pressed from the front and forced Lonergan into a superb save in the second half. Came off late on for Philipp Hofmann.
John Swift: 7
An energetic 25-minute cameo, injecting some extra life into the Brentford attack, his cross headed in by fellow sub Jota but was ruled out.
Jota: 6
The Spaniard, still working his way back to full fitness, will feel hard done by with replays indicating he was onside as he headed in.
