Fulham continue their support of local children’s hospice charity

Fulham are building on their burgeoning partnership with a local children’s hospice charity after raising more than £100,000 last season.

The Premier League club’s link-up with Shooting Star CHASE has been extended into a second year, with a series of fundraising events planned between now and the end of the current campaign.

They include a charity football match, a 10k sponsored fun-run through Bishops Park and along the Thames Path, and a number of charity collections at Craven Cottage.

Shooting Star CHASE provides expert care at two children’s hospices, including Shooting Star House in Hampton.

Fulham’s players have backed the charity

Earlier this year, Fulham’s first-team squad donated day’s wages to the charity.

The charity supports hundreds of families from across west London, Surrey and West Sussex with a life-limited child or teenager, and needs to raise £23,000 per day to run its services.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has been to Shooting Star House to meet some of the families supported by the charity and last season was interviewed, along with other first-team players, by eight-year-old Whites fan Macauley Rogers, who is supported by Shooting Star CHASE.

David Burland, the charity’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be working with Fulham FC for another year.

“Our thanks must go to everyone at the club – the players, staff and supporters who were absolutely fantastic in helping us raise over £100,000 last season.

“We are really looking forward to building on this support, in the second year of the partnership, and continuing to raise vital funds and awareness for the work we do in supporting local families with a child or teenager with a life-limiting condition.”

Steven Day, chief executive of the Fulham Football Club Foundation, added: “We raised important funds and awareness for both charities last year, through matchday collections, a charity fixture at Craven Cottage, staff challenges and through the donation of player wages.

“I hope that we can build on this great work during the 2013-14 campaign and look forward to the exciting fundraising ideas which Shooting Star CHASE, Fulham Football Club and our fans can all get involved in.”
