The transfer window closing has not stopped speculation over the future of Charlie Austin.

The north-east media continually insisted that Newcastle were pursuing a deal to sign the QPR striker despite no approach being made.

And now there is speculation that the Magpies could make a move for Austin when the transfer window re-opens.

The Northern Echo claim Newcastle will attempt to sign him in January having decided not to make an offer on deadline day.

The Newcastle Chronicle also suggests that there could be an attempt to sign Austin in January.

Several newspapers, including the Daily Express, reckon Crystal Palace made an attempt to land Austin shortly before the transfer deadline.
