Mourinho missed out on Benfica veteran and blocked Mikel move, reports claim

A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving Chelsea….

Chelsea made a last-minute bid on transfer deadline day for Benfica captain Luisao, reports in Portugal claim.

TalkSport, picking up on an article in O Jogo, suggests the Blues were prepared to offer the 34-year-old centre-back a two-year contract, but that Benfica rejected the approach.

The reports claim Luisao was targeted before Chelsea completed a deal for Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji.

And the Daily Star believes that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho personally blocked John Mikel Obi from leaving to join Besiktas.

It quotes a Turkish football agent as saying Mikel had agreed terms with Besiktas but that Chelsea pulled the plug after failing to sign Paul Pogba.

Juventus, meanwhile, have supposedly priced midfielder Pogba at more than £73m.

The Evening Standard quotes Juve director Giuseppe Marotta as saying that Pogba, who was linked with Chelsea throughout the summer, “in the future could be worth more than 100 million euros”.
