Round-up: Gladwin talks, Cahill’s vow, Blues fined, Chelsea Ladies win again, DeGale confident
Ben Gladwin is set for talks with Chris Ramsey about his lack of first-team action at QPR and could leave the club on loan, West London Sport revealed today.
The midfielder has started just one league match since his summer move from Swindon, who are interested in a loan deal to take him back to the County Ground.
Fans on Twitter have been discussing the news, with some disappointed not to have seen more of Gladwin this season.
Another Rangers midfielder, Michael Doughty, has signed a two-year extension to his contract at Loftus Road.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been £40,000 by the Football Association for failing to control their players in last month’s Premier League game against Arsenal, who were fined £30,000.
The Blues today confirmed the signing of former AC Milan keeper Marco Amelia, who will provide cover for Asmir Begovic while Thibaut Courtois is out with a knee injury.
Gary Cahill, who will captain England against Estonia, today told a news conference he is determined to tackle Chelsea’s problems “head on”.
And manager Jose Mourinho has told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport he is “proud” to have been given Chelsea’s support following the club’s poor start to the season.
Chelsea Ladies have had no such problems. The domestic Double winners, fresh from clinching the league title, won on their Champions League debut, beating Glasgow City 1-0 in the first leg of their round-of-32 tie.
In boxing, Harlesden’s IBF super-middleweight champion James DeGale says he is in brilliant physical and mental shape ahead of next month’s title defence against former champion Lucien Bute.
