Fans on Twitter react to Diagouraga move
Leeds United fans on Twitter have given a mixed reaction to their club’s imminent signing of Brentford midfielder Toumani Diagouraga.
The 28-year-old had been a target for Glasgow Rangers, managed by former Bees boss Mark Warburton, but they had a bid rejected.
Leeds, though, have had an offer accepted – which did not go down well with some of their supporters.
If Diagouraga is the calibre of player we are trying to sign there’s no chance me renewing my season ticket next year #lufc

#lufc how is signing diagouraga a sign of putting a promotion team together for next year.

Sign of the times, #lufc sign a new player, never heard of him, think only means selling someone else good , still need a striker and a cb

Certainly not over excited by this diagourara signing #lufc

But many Leeds fans seemed happy with the potential new signing, who was voted by Brentford fans as their player of the season last year.
Simple fact is Diagouraga played in a Play-Off Semi last season. If he’s a step-up from Murphy in that role, it’s progress, of sorts #lufc

Diagouraga would be a great signing. He was outstanding for Brentford at ER earlier in the season #lufc

Quite a coup if we nab Diagouraga considering he’s got the option of joining his old manager & the chance of CL football in 2 seasons. #lufc

Good signing that. Been impressed when he’s played against us and supporters’ POTS last term for a 5th placed side speaks volumes. #LUFC

There was also a mixed response from Rangers fans – some felt their club should have upped the offer for Diagouraga, while others baulked at the supposed £1.5m fee Leeds had agreed.
Questions should be asked, Diagouraga is worth the 600k & MW clearly likes him. Where’s the £? If you underbid you miss out.

No justification for paying £1.5m for Diagouraga. Does not represent value at all.
— The Blueprint (@Blueprint_Bear) January 22, 2016
If we lose out on Diagouraga, I’ll be bitterly disappointed.
— Jamie Currie (@jamiecurrie89) January 22, 2016
1.5mil for Diagouraga 😂 thank god we didn’t spend that kind of money. I’m sure Warbs has other targets in mind
— Liam (@Liamwatp) January 22, 2016
And Brentford supporters also gave their reaction.
£1.5m for Diagouraga!!!! I’ll drive him to #LUFC myself. He’ll probably go missing in the car though based on this seasons performances.

Hope we have a replacement for Toums lined up

Really not fussed about toums going 1 good season in 5 years. He’s reached his peak & we need better if we want to progress.
