News in brief: Chelsea youngsters beat QPR, Blues stalwart dies, Quins man’s Sevens call

Chelsea v QPR
Kasey Palmer and Islam Feruz scored as Chelsea Under-21s beat their QPR counterparts 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Cobham on Thursday.

Rangers keeper Conor Hudnott made saves from both Feruz and Palmer, while the visitors hit the post at the other end.

Palmer gave Chelsea the lead from the spot after Mukhtar Ali had been fouled, before Feruz doubled the lead early in the second half from Alex Kiwomya’s cross.

Ian Britton
The former Chelsea midfielder, who played 289 games for the club, has died aged 61, after a long illness.

Born in Dundee, Britton signed for Chelsea in 1971, at the age of 17, and formed part of Eddie McCreadie’s side promoted from Division Two in 1977.

He left in 1982 and had spells with Dundee United, Arbroath, Blackpool and Burnley.

Fulham Under-21s
The Whites’ youngsters play Derby County on Monday, and the Rams have confirmed Will Hughes will play in the match. The England Under-21 international is recovering from a serious knee injury sustained on the opening day of the season.

James Bransgrove
The former Brentford goalkeeper has returned to parent club Colchester after his loan at Wealdstone expired.

Hampton & Richmond Borough
The Beavers’ promotion hopes were boosted on Thursday night when rivals Bognor Regis Town lost 2-1 to Enfield. Hampton are four points clear at the top of the Ryman Premier Division, with four games to play, but Bognor have a further four games in hand and are nine points behind them.

Bedfont Sports v AFC Hayes
A goal from Matt Baxter earned Bedfont a 1-0 win over AFC Hayes in the Combined Counties Premier Division.

Hanwell Town
Harvey Killeen scored the only goal of the game early in the second half as Hanwell beat Wembley 1-0 to win the Middlesex FA Under-16 County Cup final. Michael Panford was named man of the match, played in front of 300 fans.

Middlesex
James Fuller took three wickets, while James Harris and Ravi Patel chipped in with two apiece, as Middlesex restricted Northamptonshire to 266-9 on the final day of their two-day friendly at Merchant Taylor’s School in Northwood. On Wednesday, Middlesex had made 271-6, with Sam Robson (75) top scoring.

Ollie Lindsay-Hague
The Harlequins player has been drafted into the England Sevens squad ahead of the HSBC World Series tournament in Hong Kong between 8 and 10 April.

Lindsay-Hague, 25, who featured in the same tournament six years ago, replaces Alex Gray.
