Fans on Twitter react to news that QPR expect duo to stay
QPR fans on Twitter have been expressing their relief that striker Charlie Austin and winger Matt Phillips are expected to stay at Loftus Road.
As Tuesday’s transfer deadline neared, West London Sport revealed that Rangers had received no fresh approaches for either player and the club were confident of keeping hold of them.
And while some supporters were still biting nails ahead of the 6pm cut-off point, others felt the news seriously boosted QPR’s promotion hopes.
Reports of Austin, Phillips and Fer all staying.. that makes us favourites to go back up surely?

IMO if we manage to keep Austin, Fer, Phillips and Sandro I think we win the league. — Dan Rutherford (@randomranger) September 1, 2015
I know we are all hoping Austin stays, then there has been talk of Philips going. He is a player we need to keep. Servicing Austin #QPR

Charlie Austin now odds on to remain at QPR along with Phillips. Fingers crossed by 6.01pm that is the case! #QPR — Paulos (@Paulos0987) September 1, 2015
If there is a God, let’s hope he’s looking down on us today and let’s us keep Austin and Phillips 😩👼🙏 #QPR #DeadlineDay — Will Spires (@will_spires) September 1, 2015
Fans of West Brom, who had a bid for Phillips turned down and were also linked with a move for Austin, were less than impressed with the news.
So Phillips and Austin aren’t leaving? Hoping this isn’t true #wba #QPR

Being reported that Austin and Phillips both staying and Walters looking to go to Norwich… Meltdown starts 😂 #wba — Claire Louise (@mcintyrewba3) September 1, 2015
Biggest disappointment will be if we don’t sign Phillips or another winger today. Desperately need pace in team #wba
