Fans on Twitter react to Terry’s display against Man City
The half-time substitution of John Terry against Manchester City on Sunday provoked a strong debate about the Chelsea captain on Twitter.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho explained that Terry was replaced by the pacier Kurt Zouma to allow the defence to hold a higher line in the second half.
It led some to wonder if Terry, who turns 35 in December, should be replaced by a younger, more mobile centre-half – with Everton’s John Stones the most likely target.
JT off. He’s looked awful this season and he has maybe hit the wall as his legs fail him. Stones’ asking price now at £40m… — Andrew Turmer (@AndrewTurmer) August 16, 2015
JT really got shown for his lack of pace that 45. Shows the need for Stones/Zouma to be bought & ready to take over.

#cfc gotta go get Stones this window. Time to make the transition from JT and Cahill to Stones and Zouma. — Reid Shoop (@shoopy3) August 16, 2015
But many are standing by their skipper, who played every single minute of Chelsea’s Premier League triumph last season.
He had one bad game and everyone thinks he’s at the end of his career? John terry is still the best defender England has to offer #Cfc #JT

How can these so called experts who last year were waxing lyrical about JT come out 2 games into a new season saying he’s past it? #CFC — Jack Shepherd (@JackShep87) August 17, 2015
John Terry will play next week no worries! Still a few more years in him! #KTBFFH

Everton fans watching the Chelsea defence struggle at City were bracing themselves for a third Chelsea bid for Stones.
But some enjoyed poking fun at the Blues’ start to the season, remembering an earlier comment from pundit Paul Merson that Stones would “learn a lot more at Chelsea with John Terry”.
Don’t think Stones would learn much defensively from playing with these lot #EFC — Saint (@m_philly) August 16, 2015
Stones and jags are better than terry and Cahill #fact #efc

Stones is definitely staying, why would he leave for a team fighting relegation? #efc — Henry Futcher (@futcher_henry05) August 16, 2015
