Transfer gossip: Speculation over the futures of Phillips and Green

A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving QPR…

Newcastle have again been linked with a possible move for Matt Phillips should they fail to land Andros Townsend.

West London Sport recently revealed that West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth and later Watford had shown an interest in QPR’s Phillips, and that Middlesbrough had a £6m bid for him rejected.

The Daily Telegraph subsequently suggested that Newcastle could turn their attention to Phillips if they are unable to agree a deal with Tottenham for Townsend. The Newcastle Chronicle later reported that the Magpies are not interested in the R’s winger.

The Daily Mail now say Newcastle and Watford want to sign Townsend on loan and see Phillips as a possible back-up option, and that West Brom could move for Phillips if they offload Saido Berahino or James Chester.

Middlesbrough have cooled their interest in Phillips and are looking at other targets, according to the Teesside Gazette.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News HQ say QPR have turned down an approach from Crystal Palace to take Rob Green on loan.

West London Sport recently revealed that Rangers are looking to offload Green largely because of a clause in his contract that means he would land a new deal if he made five more appearances for the club this season.

Bournemouth and Liverpool have since also been linked with the 35-year-old goalkeeper.

And Rangers, who it is claimed want to sign Kevin Constant, face competition from Bologna according to Italian media reports.

The 28-year-old left-back, who had a spell at AC Milan, has been without a club since leaving Trabzonspor last year and is one of a host of players to have been offered to QPR in recent weeks.
