Transfer gossip: Blues considering Adebayor as back-up signing, Times reports

A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving Chelsea…

Chelsea could sign Emmanuel Adebayor on a short-term deal if they fail to land another striker during this month’s transfer window, according to The Times.

The newspaper reports that Chelsea are considering making bids for Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, West Brom’s Saido Berahino and Jackson Martínez of Atlético Madrid.

Former Tottenham and Arsenal forward Adebayor, 31, is a free agent after leaving Spurs and is reportedly regarded by the Blues as a potential back-up option.

The Daily Express, on the other hand, say Chelsea are determined to land Berahino.

The club are being tipped to sign a striker following recent comments by boss Guus Hiddink regarding recent injuries to forwards Diego Costa and Loic Remy.

Hiddink said: “We have a multitude of games so I hope Remy picks it up. I hope he will deliver if he is needed.

“We are short of options. I hope they will both stay fit. I would be concerned if either picked up another injury.

“We are thinking about the situation. We have to have good competition, double occupation in every position.

“We must not go into the dangerous situation when something happens with one of the two strikers.”

The Express also pick up on reports in Spain which claim Real Madrid are willing to spend £75m on Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
