Some of Chelsea’s players posted on Twitter after their extra-time defeat against Arsenal in the Under-21 Premier League Cup.
The quarter-final exit came despite the young Blues being on top for much of the game – and it was their first loss in 15 matches.
A crowd of more than 1,200 saw the Gunners progress to the semi-finals courtesy of Benik Afobe’s goal after 106 minutes at Aldershot’s Recreation Ground.
Captain Nathan Ake tweeted: “Shame about the result, team worked hard. Thanks for the people who came to watch.”
Lewis Baker, who hit the bar shortly before Arsenal’s goal, wrote: “Battled from the 1minute tonight just couldn’t get the goal we needed with all the chances we had! On to fridays game boys #headsup.”
Andreas Christensen, who almost equalised, simply tweeted: “Hate losing! #cfc #deservedmore #CfcFamily.”
The team return to league action this Friday with a match against West Brom.
