Punters backing the Bees ahead of opener against Charlton

Charlton are the visitors to Griffin Park this weekend and Brentford are even-money to gain all three points at BetVictor with the Addicks 29/10 and the draw 5/2.

Brentford have impressed in pre-season and will be looking for a winning start in their first game in the second tier of English football for 21 years.

They are 12/1 to be promoted and have been well supported at 13/8 to end the forthcoming season in the top half of the table.

That would be a wonderful achievement by Mark Warburton’s side and I like the recent acquisition of Moses Odubajo from Orient.

The team will make many friends in the Championship with their style of play this term.

Andre Gray, so prolific in the Conference with Luton Town last term, is 6/4 favourite to be the club’s top scorer, with Scott Hogan 5s and 6/1 Bar. It looks a wide open market with, arguably, Gray too short stepping up in grade.

Punters certainly have confidence in Brentford and we have been forced to push them out to 4/1 from 10/3 to be relegated at the end of the season.

Hapless Blackpool have been backed off the boards (4/6) but the other two places are hard to call. Charlton are 11/4 second favourites for the drop.

Moses Odubajo will be one to watch at Brentford this season

We have a market on who will finish top London club in the Championship and bet:
Fulham: Evens
Watford: 7/4
Brentford: 7/1
Charlton: 12/1
Millwall : 16/1

Brentford figure prominently in our Championship handicap, having been the best backed side in the opening salvos.

For those not familiar, Cardiff are the only side on scratch with every other club given a points start over the Bluebirds.

Fulham receive three points start, whilst Brentford have a 24-point handicap and have been backed from 18s to 14/1.

Thus the market asks which side will overachieve in the Championship and the newly promoted Bees have certainly caught the eye of punters and we have been forced to cut them.

We may know more about Brentford’s long-term prospects after the opening weekend.
