Everton v Fulham player ratings

Fulham, still without a win in the club’s 26 visits to Goodison Park, showed more signs of improvement under Rene Meulensteen but Everton came on strong in the second half. Here’s how we rated the players in their 4-1 defeat.

Maarten Stekelenburg: 7
Could perhaps have done better for the all-important second Everton goal, scored by Seamus Coleman, but the Dutchman also made a couple of fine saves to keep Fulham in contention.

Sascha Riether: 7
Looked closer to his best, particularly during an excellent spell in the second half. Cleared an effort off the line and got forward whenever he could.

Philippe Senderos: 7
Uncomfortable on the ball at times but deserves credit for a decent display against Everton’s on-loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

Aaron Hughes: 7
Also played well for the most part, winning a number of crucial challenges. Was strong in the air too.

John Arne Riise: 6
Has justified his inclusion since being recalled by Meulensteen but was given a tough time in this game, as Everton were a constant threat on his side.

Ashkan Dejagah: 7
Worried Everton with his pace, especially during a spell of second-half Fulham pressure in which the game hung in the balance. His return to the side has definitely been a big boost for the Whites.

Scott Parker: 7
Battled hard in midfield and popped up in forward positions too. Would have scored but for a good save by Tim Howard.

Steve Sidwell: 7
Sidwell’s most effective display for a few weeks. He covered plenty of ground and, along with Parker, made sure Fulham stayed competitive in midfield against an impressive team that moved the ball around sharply.

Giorgos Karagounis: 7
Once again he did an admirable job while on the pitch. Passed it nicely and put a foot in when needed before being taken off with 20 minutes left.

Alex Kacaniklic: 5
Won a penalty but had a disappointing game overall, fading after a lively start. Missed a good chance to score as well.

Dimitar Berbatov: 6
Equalised from the penalty spot and did attempt to close down from the front more than usual. Struggled to get into the game though.

Pajtim Kasami: 6
Gave Fulham some attacking impetus when he came on but they paid the price for being more open, with Everton taking full advantage.

Everton
The scoreline flattered Roberto Martinez’s side, but they are clearly a formidable outfit under the Spaniard. They have a real prospect in Ross Barkley, while Steven Pienaar was outstanding.
