Doncaster v QPR player ratings
QPR paid the price for some sloppy defending as Doncaster came from behind to beat them 2-1. Here’s how we rated the players in their surprise defeat.
Rob Green: 6
Dealt with set-pieces well and produced a good save in the second half.
Danny Simpson: 7
Full of effort on the right-hand side as usual. Lacked a touch of finesse in attacking areas but was solid defensively.
Richard Dunne: 6
Had a mostly steady game at centre-back, although he was untroubled for large parts of the first half.
Clint Hill: 6
Did what he needed to do at the back and was unlucky not to score in the second half.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto: 7
Classy on the ball and got forward well, causing Doncaster some problems. Could perhaps have been tighter to Theo Robinson in the build-up to Rovers’ first goal.
Matt Phillips: 6
Lively in the first half but then faded. Still trying to rediscover his fitness and form.
Joey Barton: 7
One of Rangers’ best performers even though he didn’t have things all his own way in midfield. Used the ball well and was always willing to put a foot in.
Gary O’Neil: 6
Steady but unspectacular. Needed to do more, especially in the second half.
Niko Kranjcar: 5
Went missing during a key second-half spell in which the home side began to have the upper hand. Became increasingly ineffective before being taken off.
Jermaine Jenas: 5
Rangers looked for Jenas to get forward from midfield to support Charlie Austin and it simply didn’t work.
Charlie Austin: 7
Scored another goal, albeit a fortuitous one, and worked hard again up front.
Andy Johnson: 7
Looked lively after coming on, linking up well with Austin and offering Rangers some directness.
Doncaster
Rovers fought back brilliantly and deserved their win. They out-worked Rangers in the second half and took full advantage when the visitors switched off.
Man of the match
Richie Wellens. The Doncaster man was relentless against Barton and co, succeeding where most Championship midfielders have failed this season by managing to unsettle Rangers in the middle of the pitch.
