On Sunday 30 September the streets and parks of part of west London will come alive with runners taking part in the inaugural Ealing Half Marathon.
Starting and finishing in the leafy surrounds of Lammas Park, the 13.1-mile one-lap course will also pass through Ealing Broadway, Pitshanger, West Ealing and Walpole Park in what organisers describe as a relatively flat and traffic-free route.
Event director Kelvin Walker explained: “Having participated in many mass participation events all over London and beyond, it was clear that Ealing with its active residents, excellent public transport links and great parks would be an ideal host for such an event.
“The vision of thousands of runners enjoying the borough while being supported by friends, family and local residents was at the forefront of the planning process.”
Staging races on the busy roads of west London is notoriously difficult, so this will be a unique local event and runners of all abilities from all over the region have jumped at the chance to take part despite the steep entry fee of £34.
So far over 500 participants have registered with many seeing it as an excellent alternative to the oversubscribed Royal Parks Half Marathon, which is run a week later in central London.
Walker added: “We’ve had some great feedback so far from runners both near and far as well as fantastic support from local businesses and the community. Sunday 30 September is going to be a day to remember for the whole borough of Ealing”.
