Chelsea progressed to the quarter-finals of the League Cup in dramatic fashion at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Here’s how we rated the players in their incredible 5-4 victory over Manchester United.
Petr Cech: 6
The first goal came about after Cech made a bad decision to play a goal-kick to Oriol Romeu, even if the Spaniard was showing for the ball. Not at fault for United’s other goals though and made some decent stops.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 5
A chance to show what he could do at right-back and didn’t have the best of games. Looked uncomfortable at times, missed a good chance to score and gave away a penalty.
Gary Cahill: 6
Had some decent moments but overall wasn’t at his assured best. John Terry was missed.
David Luiz: 5
A class act on his day but is always likely to make mistakes and have off-days. He had one in this game, losing the ball in the build-up to United’s second goal and was generally sloppy. Even so he still managed to score a goal and hit the bar.
Ryan Bertrand: 6
Underlined his potential by being Chelsea’s most solid defender.
John Obi Mikel: 5
Struggled along with others in the first half and was replaced at the interval. Had the unenviable task of trying to cover for the hapless Romeu.
Oriol Romeu: 5
Oh dear. Appalling error for the opening goal, which seemed to affect his confidence. Hesitant and off the pace before being substituted.
Victor Moses: 7
Did well on the right and is a good option for Roberto Di Matteo.
Juan Mata: 8
Another great performance. Always a threat whether running at defenders or looking to bring others into the game. What a player.
Lucas Piazon: 6
A tough introduction for the young Brazilian. Has obvious ability but the game passed him by before he was taken off early in the second half.
Daniel Sturridge: 5
Scored the all-important fourth goal, although it was a gift from United defender Scott Wootton. Until that point Sturridge was poor. Needed to make a statement in the centre-forward role he feels is his best position.
Ramires: 7
Made a difference after coming on. Not at his swashbuckling best in that central midfield role but does a good job there and still popped up in the opposing box, winning an injury-time penalty and later scoring Chelsea’s fifth.
Oscar: 7
Did well after coming on as a substitute. Great ability and caused United problems, helping Chelsea get back into the match.
Eden Hazard: 8
Turned the game on its head after coming off the bench. Created openings at will, tucked away the last-gasp penalty to force extra time and delightfully set Ramires up for Chelsea’s fifth goal.

Azpilicueta had a good game. So did Cahill. If I was giving your ratings an assessment, I'd award you 2 out of 10 for presenting us with tripe.
