Chelsea v West Brom player ratings

Eden Hazard’s controversial penalty rescued a point for Chelsea just as West Brom looked set for a shock victory. Here’s how the rated the Blues players in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Petr Cech: 5
Made a hash of Stephane Sessegnon’s goal. Not really called into action much beyond that, although he did produce one excellent save.

Branislav Ivanovic: 6
Wasteful in the final third again, but certainly not alone on that front. Had stacks of possession, almost scored with a decent strike on goal and never stopped wanting to be involved.

John Terry: 6
Marginally more impressive than his centre-back partner, but like Gary Cahill will be upset by West Brom’s opening goal.

Gary Cahill: 6
Solid enough for the most part but like Terry, never quite got to grips with the excellent Shane Long.

Cesar Apilicueta: 7
Solid and faultless in defence and supported the attack well when possible. His pace and energy is the reason Jose Mourinho is selecting him ahead of Ashley Cole and on this display, that decision is understandable.

Ramires: 6
Much more suited to a game when the opposition show more intent and his energy, fitness and enthusiasm comes to the fore. But given time and space on the ball, he often struggles to pick the right pass.

Frank Lampard: 7
Very impressive early on, winning the ball and providing the platform for the midfield trio in front of him to play. Less able to influence things after the interval as West Brom played with greater intensity and started to show more ambition.

Oscar: 9
Magnificent. Never shirks the challenge no matter what the opposition or state of the game and able to adapt and play the role that the team and line-up demands. A box-to-box performance with quality. Chelsea’s player of the season so far.

Willian: 7
Showed flashes of real class, good trickery and pace, but squandered some good positions in attack and missed a great headed chance late in the second half.

Eden Hazard: 8
Eager to impress after recent troubles, the Belgian showed good strength, commitment and quality throughout. And of course he showed great composure from the penalty spot to slot home when the pressure was really on.

Samuel Eto’o: 7
A promising first half-hour but had less influence after the break. Showed great anticipation for the opening goal and was careful in possession throughout.

Juan Mata: 7
Created problems after coming on and found gaps in the latter stages. Still a huge crowd favourite. Needs a run in the side and backing from the boss to get back to his best.

John Obi Mikel: 6
Did the job he was supposed to do after coming off the bench, protecting the back three as best he could as the Blues pressed for the equaliser.

Demba Ba: 7
An effective cameo appearance. Caused problems when leading the line.

  • De earlier Mourinho realise dat we all need mikel more than we need lampard now,de better 4 us.pls play mikel more.

  • If u rate them this high, how come they have to wait for a questionable penalty to get a draw? All of them scored far less.

  • lampard was the reason why we didnt score two or more goals in the first half because he didnt move the ball quick enough into attack and therefore we didnt creat much chances. if rivals are defending deep what we need to do is to move the ball very quick from our defence to the attackers but there was nothing like that yesterday. when mikel plays with ramires it gives ramires the chance to burst forward with pace and energy with the ball to help creat something with the attackers which lampard is unabale to do and its causing our lose everytime lampard plays. legend my footh. mourinho is a coward because he cannot put lampard on the bench

  • i dont know the match you watch yesterday by given lampard that score
