Chelsea v Sunderland player ratings
Chelsea ensured they were able to celebrate receiving the Premier League trophy in style as they finished off their season with victory over Sunderland. Here’s how we rated the Blues players in their 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge.
Petr Cech: 8
A faultless display and a fitting way to end his Chelsea career if this turns out be his final appearance. Made several routine stops, and a couple of more impressive saves that were made to look simpler than they could have been because of his impeccable positioning.
Branislav Ivanovic: 8
A persistent nuisance to the Sunderland defence with a typically rampaging display on his 38th league start out of 38. Came close to setting up a couple of goals, almost scored with a fine long-range shot and could easily have won a penalty.
Gary Cahill: 8
Has been imprerious in the closing weeks of the season and gave another display brimming wih confidence. Composed and careful in possession and impressive in dealing with Steven Fletcher and the pace and threat of Jermain Defoe.
John Terry: 7
Another fine performance from a player who has played every minute of the triumphant Premier League season, thereby making a mockery of suggestions he was injury prone and unble to play two games in a week.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 7
Overshadowed slightly by Ivanovic, but defensively he was more solid and showed some good touches in the final third.
John Mikel Obi: 6
Started in busy fashion, closing down more than he normally does and looking to upset the visitors’ rhythm. Did a sound defensive job but was quiet after that initial burst.
Nemanja Matic: 8
Plenty of endeavour with quality to match. At his stylish best at times, notably when he laid on Loic Remy’s second goal. Used the ball sensibly, rarely wasting possession and ensured Chelsea dominated possession after the break.
Juan Cuadrado: 7
Showed further signs of his quality and renewed confidence after an unconvincing start to his Blues career. Won the penalty and was unfortunate to be forced off injured when he surely would have thrived as the game opened up after the interval.
Willian: 9
Has begun to add an impressive range of passing to his ability to run with the ball. His eagerness to switch play – and the quality to pull it off – stood out in a dazzling performance.
Eden Hazard: 8
Rounded off his sensational season in predictable fashion. He has looked a cut above the majority of his opponents all season long and once again did not disappoint as he maintained his 100% starting league record.
Didier Drogba: 6
Not quite the way he would have wanted to bow out second time around although the Chelsea legend was once again full of running despite his knee injury. Showed a couple of good early touches and some fine hold-up play but then struggled before his early exit to a hugely deserved standing ovation.
Diego Costa: 8
Gave a timely reminder of exactly what Chelsea have been missing since early April, acting as a focal point for the midfield runners, as well as bringing aggression and a goal threat. The striker scored his 20th goal of the season with a cool spot-kick and was the biggest single reason for the impressive comeback.
Loic Remy: 8
Scored with two well-taken goals after coming on in the first half. Offered a constant menance with his direct running and desire to get in to the box, providing a different sort of threat to Chelsea’s other wide options. And, even though he does not look entirely comfortable out wide, he causes all sorts of problems when the Blues are on top.

Remy is a better No.10 than Oscar
