Chelsea v QPR: Player ratings

John Terry and of course Fernando Torres were the men of the moment as Chelsea crushed their west London neighbours in Sunday’s derby. There were as many fine displays for the Blues as there were dismal ones for QPR. Here’s how we rated the players…

CHELSEA

Petr Cech: 7
Barely troubled before producing an excellent save to deny Jamie Mackie.

Paulo Ferreira: 7
Solid against the pace of Djibril Cisse.

John Terry: 8
Dealt with his reception from QPR fans easily and found dealing with Bobby Zamora even easier. And scored a goal.

Jose Bosingwa: 7
Much maligned, but has done okay when called upon in recent games.

Ashley Cole: 7
Beaten in the build-up to QPR’s late goal, but otherwise very effective against Mackie who – as even the Premier League’s best left-backs have discovered this season – can be a pest.

Michael Essien: 7
Still yet to rediscover his best form, but in this game was comfortably able to control the midfield and dominate the ineffective Joey Barton.

Frank Lampard: 8
Another great performance from the Blues midfielder, especially in the first half as he pulled the strings with Chelsea well on top.

Juan Mata: 7
Much better from the Spaniard, who struggled in the two games against Barcelona. Was involved in five goals before being substituted.

Salomon Kalou: 6
Nice pass for Torres’ first goal but did fade as the game wore on.

Fernando Torres: 8
With goals to match his work rate and obvious quality, Torres was a joy to watch. Marvellous hat-trick and deserves the plaudits after enduring such a difficult spell.

Daniel Sturridge: 7
His early goal crushed weak Rangers and his general performance was an improvement on recent displays.

Ramires: 7
Difficult for the strongest teams to handle, let alone QPR. Made an impact after coming on as a substitute, setting up Chelsea’s sixth goal.

Florent Malouda: 7
Also made an impact after coming on. Took his goal well and might have scored before that.

QPR

Paddy Kenny: 5
Has not been in good form and suffered a horrible afternoon, especially when dropping the ball for Torres to score Chelsea’s fourth.

Nedum Onuoha: 6
Poor in the first half but determined in the second and did well for Rangers’ goal.

Clint Hill: 5
Been a credit to his club and arguably deserves to be Rangers’ player of the year. But here he was poor and was too easily beaten for Chelsea’s second goal.

Anton Ferdinand: 5
Seemed to be affected by the taunts of Chelsea fans, although some of his errors were hardly uncharacteristic.

Taye Taiwo: 5
Surely the least convincing of Mark Hughes’ signings. Caught out a number of times. Armand Traore looks a much better option for Rangers at left-back.

Jamie Mackie: 6
Worked hard as ever and was unlucky not to score. Might have been better off in the middle hassling Chelsea’s under-strength central defence.

Shaun Derry: 5
Committed to the cause but Chelsea’s movement was too much for him.

Akos Buzsaky: 5
Sloppy. A key player in a vital area of the pitch against Chelsea and did not produce.

Joey Barton: 5
QPR signed Barton for matches like this. Predictably, he disappointed.

Djibril Cisse: 6
Lively at times and scored Rangers’ goal, but despite being out of position really ought to have tested Ferreira more.

Bobby Zamora: 5
Timid before being substituted in the second half.

Armand Traore: 6
Did quite well on the left after replacing Zamora.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: 6
Had little time to make an impact and never looked like doing so.
