Chelsea’s grip on the FA Cup ended as they were beaten in a thrilling semi-final at Wembley. Here’s how we rated the Blues players in their 2-1 defeat.

Peter Cech: 8
Chelsea would have been dead and buried long before their second-half rally were it not for Cech, who produced a number of saves – including a superb stop to deny Sergio Aguero in the first half.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6
Had his hands full defensively and should have done better for City’s goal, when Aguero got between him and Branislav Ivanovic to head home.

David Luiz: 5
Struggled against City’s attack both on the ground and in the air. Chelsea lacked the kind of organisation John Terry usually gives them.

Branislav Ivanovic: 5
Also at fault for the second goal. Generally struggled against City’s skill and movement.

Ryan Bertrand: 6
Probably Chelsea’s most effective defender in a hugely disappointing team display at the back. Did his job but was unable to contribute much going forward.

John Obi Mikel: 5
Had a poor game before being taken off midway through the second half. Was given the runaround by Yaya Toure as City won the midfield battle with ease.

Ramires: 5
Also struggled as Chelsea were dominated in the middle of the field.

Oscar: 6
Worked hard but found it tough to get into the game. Showed glimpses of his great skill but generally endured a frustrating afternoon.

Juan Mata: 6
A measure of City’s success was the extent to which they managed to keep Mata quiet. His movement caused them some problems, but he was restricted mostly to posing a threat with his deliveries into the box.

Eden Hazard: 6
Another player very well contained by City. Unlucky not to score in the first half though.

Demba Ba: 7
Had little service for much of the game but led the line well before scoring a great goal. However, he then missed a good chance to equalise.

Fernando Torres: 7
Did well after coming on for Mikel. Hassled Vincent Kompany in the build-up to Ba’s goal and his pace and close control worried City.
