There were several contenders after a great Chelsea performance, but we made Petr Cech our man of the match. Here’s how we rated the Blues’ Wembley heroes…
Peter Cech: 9
The controversy over Andy Carroll’s late header shouldn’t detract from a magnificent save by Chelsea’s keeper, who did superbly to claw the ball onto the bar and leave the officials with a tough decision to make. Also got down well to produce a good save from Luis Suarez and commanded his area throughout.
Jose Bosingwa: 5
Has plenty of critics and has surpassed expectations when called upon of late, but in this game he was exposed. Caught out several times and was dispossessed in the build-up to Liverpool’s goal.
John Terry: 7
Marshalled the defence well as usual, although he might have prevented the goal by Carroll, who tricked him before firing home.
Branislav Ivanovic: 7
Struggled against Carroll in the air but otherwise did well and produced a crucial first-half block to deny Craig Bellamy.
Ashley Cole: 7
Solid defensively and gave Glen Johnson problems at the other end when he ventured forward.
John Obi Mikel: 7
Dominated the midfield in the important early stages, although that was partly down to the shortcomings of Liverpool duo Spearing and Henderson.
Frank Lampard: 8
Much more impressive than England colleague Steven Gerrard. Lovely assist for Chelsea’s second goal.
Juan Mata: 8
Created the first goal with a lovely pass and totally outclassed Spearing and Henderson throughout.
Salomon Kalou: 7
Worked hard on the left and almost created an opening for himself with a first-half burst into the box.
Ramires: 8
Another outstanding, energetic display – and another goal in a big game. Will be missed when he sits out the Champions League final through suspension.
Didier Drogba: 8
Scored at Wembley yet again with a typically emphatic finish. Troubled Liverpool’s defence from start to finish.
