Chelsea v City player ratings
Chelsea looked more solid but struggled to create chances against Manchester City. Here’s how we rated the Blues players in their 0-0 draw with the Premier League champions.
Petr Cech: 7
Not tested much but made a couple of decent stops when called upon, including a late save to deny Matija Nastasic.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 7
The Spaniard is growing in stature all the time as he becomes more familiar with the English game. Effective in both halves of the pitch.
Branislav Ivanovic: 7
Again showed what a fine centre-back he is. Dealt well with the threat of Ediz Dzeko.
David Luiz: 7
Kept on his toes by Sergio Aguero and was up to the task. But although the centre-backs did well individually, collectively the Blues look secure without Gary Cahill and especially John Terry.
Ashley Cole: 7
As usual was both reliable defensively and a threat going forward.
John Obi Mikel: 6
Has been in good form lately but wasn’t quite as imposing in this game.
Ramires: 7
Gave as good as he got in a battle with Yaya Toure.
Eden Hazard: 6
Worked hard off the ball but struggled to get into the game before being substituted in the second half.
Juan Mata: 6
Drifted in and out of the game and, unusually for him, his passing was a little sloppy at times.
Oscar: 6
Full of running but lacked an end product. Always looked to create something in his wide position but is more dangerous through the middle.
Fernando Torres: 5
Didn’t get much service but never looked like creating an opportunity for himself. Is testing Chelsea fans’ patience – especially following the controversial appointment of the manager said to be able to get the best out of him.
Victor Moses: 6
Injected some pace and directness when he came on with 19 minutes remaining but was unable to create a real chance.

2nd best in most areas. Must do better if this season is not to fall apart.
