Chelsea are looking to pull off the £30m signing of Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.
It is claimed that Blues owner Roman Abramovich has personally sanctioned move for the England star, who has been linked with Bayern Munich.
It is also claimed that there has already been contact between Chelsea, United and Rooney’s representatives.
Speculation about Rooney’s future has increased because of the expected appointment of David Moyes as United manager.
Everton boss Moyes is set to be confirmed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford.
He is said to have an uneasy relationship with Rooney, who played under him before leaving Merseyside to join United in 2004.
Chelsea are reported to be confident they can hijack the supposed Bayern deal and appeal to Rooney’s apparent desire to stay in English football.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail say Rooney has asked for move and that Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in him.
