Chelsea are monitoring Wolfsburg’s Swiss international left-back Ricardo Rodriguez, according to the Daily Mirror.
Rodriguez, 20, is under contract until 2015 but Chelsea are said to be showing an interest along with AC Milan.
The Mirror also say Chelsea are cooling their interest in Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao because Blues owner Roman Abramovich is no longer convinced the Colombian is worth the asking price.
Atletico apparently want £46m for the striker, who has also been linked with Manchester City.
It is claimed Chelsea are now looking at cheaper alternatives, with Marseille’s France striker Loic Remy and Porto’s Jackson Martinez mentioned as possible signings.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report that Ashley Cole is serious doubt for Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk after missing training on Monday with an ankle problem.
And according to The Sun, Chelsea players are divided over whether referee Mark Clattenburg aimed racist remark at John Obi Mikel.
