Rafael Benitez wants to sign Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Spain international, previously linked with Tottenham, would reportedly cost in the region of £15m.
Meanwhile, Benitez is in line to land the Chelsea manager’s job on a permanent basis, according to The Sun.
It is claimed that Stamford Bridge sources say club owner Roman Abramovich has been impressed with the interim boss and wants him to stay beyond the end of the season.
The Independent say Chelsea are considering move for Everton and England left-back Leighton Baines and have not given up hope of signing Radamel Falcao.
But a number of other papers, including the Daily Telegraph, suggest Falcao is planning to stay at Atletico Madrid.
And the Daily Mirror say Barcelona striker David Villa is keen to join Chelsea.
