Chelsea and others ‘on alert’ over possible Guardiola return

Pep Guardiola has put Chelsea on alert by indicating he is ready to return to management, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Manchester United, who are believed to be planning for life after Sir Alex Ferguson, and Manchester City are also said to be keen on the former Barcelona boss.

It is claimed that Chelsea, City and Bayern Munich are his preferred options and that he has instructed his advisers to open talks with interested clubs in January.

The Sunday Mirror also say Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has launched his own investigation into the controversy surrounding the club and referee Mark Clattenburg.

An article in the Independent on Sunday suggests Chelsea reported alleged racial insults made by Clattenburg because they feared being accused of not taking racism seriously in the wake of the recent case involving John Terry.

It also suggests Mikel claims to have personally heard Clattenburg call him a monkey. It was previously reported that only Ramires said he heard the alleged comment.

The Sunday Telegraph say there are fears about the heavy toll the saga is taking on Clattenburg and that he will see a psychologist before he officiates again.

Meanwhile, QPR want to sign Victor Wanyama from Celtic, according to The People.

Mark Hughes was linked with the Kenyan in August and it is claimed the R’s boss has been alerted to the fact that Wanyama has not agreed a new deal at Parkhead.

The People say that despite Tony Fernandes’ recent public support, Hughes may lose his job if Rangers fail to beat Reading today.

The Sunday Telegraph also suggest chairman Fernandes could be persuaded to sack Hughes depending on today’s result.
