A late Cardiff equaliser denied Fulham a winning start to the season after Matt Smith’s goal had put them ahead. Here’s we rated the Whites players in Saturday’s 1-1 draw.
Andy Lonergan: 8
Fulham’s star player. Dealt well with crosses and made three great saves to keep out Joe Mason efforts. Could do nothing about the one that beat him.
Jazz Richards: 6
The former Swansea man was predictably booed by home fans, but locked up the right flank well enough to silence them.
Shaun Hutchinson: 7
Made one vital second-half block. All round it was a confident start to the campaign for the defender.
Dan Burn: 7
A solid afternoon at the heart of the back four for a man with a big season ahead of him as he bids to establish himself. Although Mason was a handful, the towering defender was a key player in holding back Cardiff’s second-half onslaughts.
Kay Voser: 6
Always willing to get forward – supplying one cross that almost brought a goal for Matt Smith. A terrier-like performance from the Swiss left-back, whose work ethic was impressive.
Lasse Vigen Christensen: 7
Calm, neat and tidy in possession and often the source of good counter-attacks, although his influence waned in the second half as Cardiff got on top.
Jamie O’Hara: 7
The go-to man for Fulham when they got on the front foot. Ensured the Whites did not stay focused only on defending. His experience helped during moments of pressure too, which could prove vital in the months ahead.
Tom Cairney: 6
Probably not as influential as he would like to have been, but offered encouraging signs on his first competitive start for the Whites that he may be a shrewd summer recruit.
Ross McCormack: 7
Did not get too many sights of the target, but nearly won it at the death and went close towards the end of first half after skipping away from Peter Whittingham and firing a low shot just wide of the far post.
Ben Pringle: 7
Very industrious on his debut and always willing to track back. His stumble maybe contributed to Craig Noone’s equaliser, but his effort could not be faulted and he was involved in Fulham’s goal.
Matt Smith: 8
Always a menace to the Bluebirds. Unbeatable in the air. Hit the post with one header, while his flick-ons always looked likeliest source of goals.
