QPR slipped to their first league defeat of the season as a Danny Ings double won the top-of-the-table clash at Turf Moor. Here’s how we rated Rangers’ players in their 2-0 loss.
Rob Green: 6
Was barely troubled and stood no chance with both goals, but did make a smart save at the feet of Ings after Karl Henry’s shocking back-pass in the first half.
Danny Simpson: 6
Another solid showing from the right-back. Made a couple of telling last-ditch tackles and was neat in possession. However, his crossing continues to be poor at times.
Richard Dunne: 5
Was bamboozled by a smart change of pace by Ings for the opener and then was caught in no man’s land in the build-up to the penalty which led to Burnley’s second. Showed his vulnerability when faced with a tricky striker. Also missed a sitter.
Clint Hill: 7
Fared much better than his centre-back partner, with some typically robust challenges and was unlucky to be on the losing side.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto: 5
Disappointing from the Spurs loanee. Looked disinterested for large parts and failed to take advantage of the attacking space in front of him.
Gary O’Neil: 6
Drifted in and out of the game but got through his usual amount of leg work on the right flank.
Joey Barton: 5
His worst performance of the season. Was petulantly booked for a lazy foul on Keith Treacy, gave away the penalty and was overrun in midfield. He now misses Wednesday’s game at Wigan because of a suspension for five bookings.
Karl Henry: 5
Started the game positively and could have scored, but faded woefully as the game wore on. Almost put Ings through with a dire pass and lost possession in the build-up to the first goal. His place could be under threat for Wednesday.
Junior Hoilett: 6
Offered a threat in the early stages but his final ball was disappointing and he faded when QPR most needed his attacking impetus.
Niko Kranjcar: 6
After running the show against Millwall, Burnley cut off the supply line to the Croatian and he was never given the platform to showcase his skills.
Charlie Austin: 6
Received absolutely no service on his return to Turf Moor. A day to forget for the former Clarets star.
Jermaine Jenas: 6
Replaced Henry after the first goal but failed to have any effect on the game.
Matt Phillips: 6
Not a player who is accustomed to being an impact substitute and although he looked hungry for the ball, he has not quite found his feet in a Rangers shirt yet.
Javier Chevanton: 6
Buzzed around the pitch when he replaced Krancjar but couldn’t get into the game.
