Brentford v Charlton player ratings
Tommy Smith’s late equaliser rescued a deserved point for Brentford on their Championship debut. Here’s how we rated the players in their 1-1 draw with Charlton.
David Button: 6
Made an important save in the first half and a blinding fingertip stop on to a post to deny Igor Vekotele in the second. But just as he was making himself a man-of-the-match contender, he allowed Vetokele to head home for the goal and was later dispossessed by the striker only to see Callum Herriot strike the bar.
Alan McCormack: 7
A solid performance at right-back, tidying up well and helping out when Vetokele was testing the defence.
James Tarkowski: 6
Good in the air, had a bit of a tougher time of it when the impressive Vetokele had the ball at his feet.
Tony Craig: 7
The skipper led by example with a fine first-half display, but the whole Bees defence looked rattled after the break.
Jake Bidwell: 7
Got forward well, particularly in the first half, but had to be alert in his defensive duties against Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
Jonathan Douglas: 6
Also got forward well, particularly in the first half, but had to be alert in his defensive duties against Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
Moses Odubajo: 6
Got one shot away in his first 45 minutes in a Brentford shirt, a tame effort straight at Stephen Henderson, and was withdrawn at half-time by Marcos Tebar.
Alan Judge: 7
Snapped around in midfield in the first half, inconsistent with the ball at times though. Struck the bar with a free-kick late on that could have been the winner.
Alex Pritchard: 7
The Tottenham loanee had an excellent first half, curling a shot inches wide and didn’t shirk the physical battle. However, his set-piece delivery was mixed to say the least. Replaced by Smith with 13 minutes to play.
Stuart Dallas: 8
The Bees’ outstanding performer. He was persistent, used the ball efficiently and cleverly, found space intelligently and was a thorn in Charlton’s side.
Andre Gray: 6
Has stepped up three divisions and found the going tough on his debut, as Charlton’s experienced centre back pairing of Tal Ben Haim and Andre Bikey gobbled everything up. In Gray’s defence, too much was in the air for him to make a real impact.
Marcos Tebar: 6
Came on at half-time, as the fourth debutant, but struggled to make a real impact.
Nick Proschwitz: 6
Came on for Gray but also struggled to get change out of Ben Haim and Bikey.
Tommy Smith: 7
A great cameo from the forward, who scored the all-important equaliser.
Man of the match: Dallas
