Boro v Chelsea player ratings

Chelsea secured a quarter-final trip to face Manchester United by seeing off Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. Here’s how we rated the players in their fifth-round victory.

Petr Cech: 6
Unconvincing in the first half, when he was almost caught out by a long-range effort from Mustapha Carayol. Was assured in the second half though as Boro tried to get back into the game.

Paulo Ferreira: 6
Was given some problems by Carayol but neither the Middlesbrough man or his team were good enough to take advantage.

Branislav Ivanovic: 6
Found Scott McDonald tough to handle at times but did enough to win their battle.

John Terry: 7
Added some much needed leadership at the back on his return to the side.

Ryan Bertrand: 7
Produced his best performance for some time. Was solid defensively and got forward too.

Nathan Ake: 7
Did very well on his full debut. Was deployed in a defensive midfield role and showed his potential with a number of well timed interventions and sensible passes.

Ramires: 6
Ineffective in the first half but improved in the second and put Chelsea ahead with the help of a lucky deflection.

Victor Moses: 7
Full of running down the right and deserved his goal, which was laid on a plate for him by Eden Hazard.

Oscar: 6
Struggled to get into the game but was involved in Chelsea’s second goal.

Yossi Benayoun: 5
Unimpressive in a rare appearance for the Blues. Played a part in the opening goal but contributed little else.

Fernando Torres: 5
His movement helped open Boro up for the likes of Moses and Hazard, but Torres offered very little goal threat even against Championship opposition.

Eden Hazard: 7
Made a big difference when he came on in the second half. Far too good for the Boro defence and did superbly to set up Moses’ goal.
