Unbeaten Benfica (from Kilburn) win futsal tournament

Kilburn-based club Sport London e Benfica have won the second season of the FA Futsal Fives without losing a game.

The victorious team (pictured above) beat London United U-21 3-0 in the final round of matches to seal their 11th win in 12 games.

It was only London United’s second defeat of the competition – the other being their previous meeting with Sport London e Benfica, who were worthy champions.

Futsal is an indoor five-a-side game using a weighted size-four ball. The ball can go over head height but can’t be played off walls.

It is a sport that places a real emphasis on technical skill and is hugely popular around the world. Top stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo played the game as youngsters.

The third season of The FA Futsal Fives will kick off with a full league programme at Northolt High School Sports Centre later this year.

In the meantime, Middlesex County FA will be staging tournaments so existing clubs can prepare for the new season and new teams can experience this fast-paced and fun game for themselves.
