Joey Barton has been linked with a possible move to Everton – the club he supported as a boy.
Barton is currently on loan at Marseille from QPR, who would like him to agree to a termination of his Loftus Road contract by mutual consent.
French media have therefore reported that he could stay at Marseille, while the Daily Mail suggest he may return to England, as he has been touted as potential replacement for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini.
Meanwhile, Chelsea plan to offer Barcelona £12m for striker David Villa, according to The Sun.
It is claimed they to intend to make the first move for the Spain international and that it could spark four-way battle with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
The Sun also suggest Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed its Boxing Day story that Frank Lampard has been told to find another club in January.
The popular midfielder was a substitute at Norwich and is tipped to also be on the bench for Sunday’s game against Everton.
And The Daily Telegraph believe former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is contender to take over at Nottingham Forest.

very poor article, barton replace fellaini?? he couldnt lace his boots never mind fit in them. plus why would they take barton who has a big ban to serve, when they are saying the fact cahill is on a 3 match ban is a stumbling block for him to go back there on loan in the new year??? the reporter has made this story up FACT
Bartons been 'coming to Goodison' since before he went to Newcastle. Its guff now as it always has been. Moyes selects players on character as well as talent...occasionally he gets it wrong...cue Royston Drenthe. Barton is a known quantity though. He's a born, bred, passionate, Evertonian and if you add fanatical passion to his proven recklessness you get a very difficult player to manage. Moyes will know that all too well. Barton may well be back at Goodison in an Everton shirt....but he'll be in the stands not on the pitch.
