News in brief: Whites beat Pompey in friendly, mixed fortunes for Robson
Fulham Under-21s
Thomas Eisfeld scored twice and Alex Kacaniklic pulled on a Fulham shirt for the first time since August as Fulham beat Portsmouth 3-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday.
The Whites fielded a strong line-up which included Gabor Kiraly, Kay Voser, Dan Burn, Elsad Zverotic, Patrick Roberts, George Williams and Moussa Dembele, but it was summer signing Eisfeld who did the damage with two first-half free-kicks.
Kacankilic, recalled last week after four months on loan at FC Kobenhavn, came off at the break and Pompey reduced the arrears on 65 minutes, only for Jordan Evans to restore the two-goal lead shortly afterwards.
Emerson Hyndman
The Fulham midfielder has been named in the USA squad for this month’s Concacaf Under-20 Championship. The tournament, held in Jamaica, runs between 9-24 January and the USA will play five group matches, against Guatemala, Panama, Aruba, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago. It also acts as a qualifying competition for the Under-20 World Cup.
Josh Passley
The full-back has returned to Fulham after his loan deal with Shrewsbury Town expired. Passley, 20, made seven appearances for the Shrews after joining them towards the end of November, and helped them keep five clean sheets in that time.
Kieran Morris
The Brentford development squad defender has extended his loan at former club Stourbridge until 8 February. The 19-year-old re-joined the Northern Premier League side in December, having left there in 2013 to sign for the Bees.
Middlesex FA
Hayes & Yeading United pair Luke Bersey and Dylan Kearney and Wealdstone’s Jack Smith have been named in the Middlesex FA’s Under-18 squad to take on Durham in the FA County Youth Cup quarter-final. Five of the 19 players are from Bedfont Sports, with Norman Bukowski, Tyler DeCruz, Joe Jackson, Antone Jarvis and Darryl Sanders all called up. Harefield United trio Karim Chaibi, Jordon Keeley and Reece Tiley and Wembley’s Carl Pearce complete the west London representatives. The match takes place on Saturday 17 January, at Northwood FC, with a 1pm kick-off.
Sam Robson
The Middlesex opener endured contrasting fortunes on day two of England Lions’ tour match against a Gauteng Invitational XI in Soweto. Robson, who made 109 on Monday as the Lions’ amassed 443, claimed three catches to help bowl the home side out for just 179. However, he made just one run in the tourists’ second innings, trapped lbw by Matthew Arnold, as they closed on 43-3.
