Ross Barkley backed out of a pre-deadline move to Chelsea, who have completed the signings of Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta.

Chelsea agreed a fee of around £30m with Everton for England international Barkley, but he suddenly decided against the move.

Barkley’s contract at Everton expires next year and he has refused to sign a new deal at Goodison Park.

The 23-year-old, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, has long been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

But Barkley changed his mind as the champions were preparing to formally complete the transfer.

However, a £35m deal was agreed for Drinkwater with Leicester.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who played alongside Chelsea star N’Golo Kante for the Foxes, made the move after telling the East Midlands club he wanted to leave.

Italy international Zappacosta, 25, can play at wing-back or full-back. He has signed a four-year contract at the Bridge.

Zappacosta, signed for an undisclosed fee, said: “It is a dream for me to join Chelsea and play in the Premier League.

“I am very excited to be here and start working with the team. I hope I can show my quality to the coach, my team-mates and the supporters.”

  • it's really sad to see players turning us down in the middle of the storm,Mr emenalu and Mr conte should discard those long time failure football ideas of theirs.

  • OX HAS NOTIN TO DO HIS COMIN MAY EVEN BRING BAD LUCK TO CHELSEA SO THEY SHOULD LET HIM GO ANYWHERE HE WANT TO GO.

  • With missing out on Ox we've taken a hit! Man U want WILLIAN? Mou in my face should be considered a villan! He sold Mata, sold Lukaku, sold Matic...all arrived in Manchester! He still wants one of our bes' players, he'd better have the Glazers prepare some Mbappe money!not a dime less! Anything under that he need not stress...himself! So the Sun should just kill that noise they tryna put out! 'cause, "It ain't gonna happen!!" How do the Spuds get Llorente from the Swans for £12mill but were quoting Cfc something around the region of £20mill?? We loaned these people our jewel T. Abraham to bang the goals in for them?? When will the cfc hierarchy learn!? S.Aurier from PSG for £23mill, real value for money specially during this ridiculous transfer window, but the Spuds got him! While we still chasing shadows (A. Sandro...) The board should wake up an smell the coffee, players turning down a winning outfit is a cause for concern! Ain't even about the money they'd earn! They hear Chelsea, and all they wan' do is run! It's cause of what the so called "board" do, or did to the likes of exceptional talents like B.Traore, N.Ake, C.Musonda, A.Christensen, Chalobah...the list is endless! They're viewed as a poison chalice! If you join you're destined for the bench or a loan move(lack, stability or an identity) Roman should make real changes @ the top, in order for this..to stop! In this time no club has been more successful than Cfc in the Premier League!! Build on that, players should be begging to play for us, but as it stands, it appears to be vise versa!! Stop loaning out talent if any of our players were playing for say, Monaco, "what price tag do you'll think they'd command!!?" Forget the peanuts our young talent is sold @ and people claim they've conducted shrewd business 'cause they made a couple of £s from their sales!! Darn, let's get it together, with youth we'd easily dominate for a decade! Not when 31yr Olds (Rafinha) are avoiding us like the plague!!

  • The OX, move on he was never good enough for the blues yet another Arsenal failure!!!

Good luck Liverpool another dead horse to add to you existing MOB!!!!!

  • d Costa enough our the team strong strike mothn Costa morata his ok we are find strike like morata and miledfi

  • apart 4rm moses and alonso wich wing back do blues have if anytin happens to any of dem.
